ABOUT THE ARTIST

Franziska Stünkel was born in Göttingen in 1973. She studied at the University of Applied Sciences Hannover in the film class of Professor Uwe Schrader, where she received her master degree in 2004. Ever since her studies and intensively since 2010, she is working with photography. She is constantly working on her photo-series “Coexist”. On her countless journeys around Asia, Europe, Africa or Middle Sea she has preserved unique moments through reflections on glass. Her works are not only about the creation of new and complex aesthetics by the use of her attentive look, but they primarily foreground the coexistence of people in different places. The complexity, proximity and unique moments of human coexistence are reflected by visual overlaps and the changing subjects of her works. In addition to her photo-series “Coexist”, Franziska Stünkel has created a special edition, called “Silent Stories”, which was photographed in a dreamy resort in the Spreewald in July 2015. Her special technique enables Stünkel to visualise the feeling of security and the closeness to nature. All these photographs with their multifunctional and emotional effects are originals without post-processing.

Beside her work as photographer, Franziska Stünkel is also a successful film director.

Franziska Stünkel studied at the Academy of fine arts Kassel and the college for visual arts Hannover. She studied in a film class and a photography art class. In Munich she completed a guest semester with Prof. Doris Dörrie. She was also selected for the one-year Talents 2003 training programme, taught by Danish screenwriter Mogans Rukov (“The Feast”). As a participant of the “Berlinale Talent Campus”, Franziska Stünkel was taught by other internationally active lecturers.

Following her diploma, she was appointed a master student of Prof. Uwe Schrader.
